An Award-Winning Speech
Posted by:Jenn--Sunday, October 14, 2012

In early October, our Parents of the Year spoke at the Allegheny County courthouse, where they also received recognition for their award. They did an encore performance at the following week's PSST meeting, but for those of you who missed that, the speech is attached here.

I just re-read this speech. No wonder it hovers at the top of our most popular posts (right-side margin of this blog)! It's not just well-written, but it's organized parenting well executed by both parents working as a team.

It's not surprising especially if you were in attendance at the many meetings where Jessica kept us all in stitches with her observations. The humor from Jessica alone made the whole trip to PSST worthwhile. It's such a gift to be able to turn pain into humor.

Not to leave out Roger's contribution: Roger is maybe the best example where a parent harnessed anger in a constructive way. We know that anger is not always destructive and if we didn't know that would we dare call ourselves PSST?

Of course, I had to love the shout out at the end to Charlie's Angels!

This is a must-read for anyone considering asking for their teenager's case with Probation to be closed. It's scary to "work without a net" but there comes a time when more outside supervision can be counterproductive.

Let's remember that Probation is by necessity a temporary thing and best utilized to help parents get stronger, more organized, better supported, and more knowledgeable. Add in some clean time for the teenager and keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks Jessica and Roger for all you have done to help our entire community. Your contribution to PSST goes on and on...

Lastly, thanks and good luck to Herman, who has obviously taken responsibility for his own decisions. Without you none of this would have happened.
