Virtual PSST Make-up Meeting

Sorry about the last minute cancellation of the Wexford PSST Meeting due to the snow. We all know that addiction issues do not take "Snow Days".

We would like to try a "Virtual PSST Meeting" - Sally and I will start with our comments and you are invited to enter your own or to respond in the comment section.

If you have too much for the comment section that is not a problem - please send an e-mail to sallyservives@gmail.com at the top right hand corner of the Blog.

Sally and Rocco: Our son Cisco is 19 and has been in and out of recovery programs since he was 15. We have been coming to meetings on a regular basis since May, 2009. Cisco is now off of juvenile probation and we are thankful (like Violet) that he is still alive and has no charges or legal issues pending. He is about to complete 30 days of a recovery program that he went into on his own. He tells us that he is able to handle his recovery better because nobody has forced him to do it.

He will be returning to our home on Wednesday and going back to his job on Friday. We have a contract ready for him spelling out that he will continue to work his recovery, show respect to his family and his home, stay away from any mind altering substances and illegal activities, allow us to work his budget with him and other rules concerning people, places and things.

He understands that the consequence of any violation of the contract is finding somewhere else to live. He understands what this means since he did it for almost two months and says he does not want to do it again.

We are thankful for where we are and that we have control of our lives and our home. We are thankful where Cisco is as this time. We accept that we are where we are supposed to be and of course we are thankful for everyone's support at PSST.

We will continue this "One day at a time."

What a great idea. I'd just like to thank everyone for coming. Any announcements? No? Ok then, Sally and Rocco already shared, who wants to go next?

Jenn & Brad: Our son Dylan is 15 and has been in placement for the past 9 months. He earned Guide status in late November, but lost all status after his second unsuccessful home pass at Christmas. The judge previously charged him with completing his placement in time for his court review next week, but that won’t happen. The judge will not be pleased.

Urged on by some justifiable trepidation about the upcoming court review, Dylan has improved his scores during the past 3 weeks. Unfortunately, he lacks the confidence that he can achieve Guide status and complete successful home passes. As his parents, our hearts break for him and the struggle that he is going through. We pray that he can find the strength to meet this challenge head-on.

My son Davy has been home from his 90 day placement for three weeks now. He started in-home- d/a counseling last week. He is struggling. He's been out with his friends twice and came home past curfew both times. I smelled alcohol on his breath once, and he's had one good 'flip out' when I told him I'd be writing all of this down for his Act 53 court date and Pending probation. UGGhh I have a headache.

Cisco has been home for 10 days. He attended 8 recovery meetings and is getting to work on time.

The next big hurdle will be payday (this Wednesday). Cisco is to pay us rent and start a savings. In the past he just wanted to waste each paycheck. He is talking about buying a blackberry, however, he needs to learn that his responsibilities come first.

There will not be much money left after he meets his responsibilities I think we should give him this forecast at our Sunday family meeting.

I also made him aware this morning that he owes us an additional $30.00. You see, he was complaining about a horrible tooth ache and I asked him if he wanted to see the dentist. He said yes and I made an emergency appt. He slept at a friends house last night (he has slept at home all week but last night he went to stay with a friend who we all trust) Since his tooth is not hurting this morning, he does not want to go to the dentist.

When we spoke on the phone, he said he did not want me to make the appt. in the first place. I agreed with him and promised him I will never make another appt. for him. I explained that the dentist will probably charge us a cancellation fee and he is to pay us $30.00 to cover that fee and then I calmly ended the conversation.

Rocco then text him the following message: "Doing the right thing is more important than doing the comfortable thing. You have inconvenienced 4 or 5 people"

Rocco and I decided to go about our regular routine. We had breakfast and now after I am done blowing off some steam by writing this all down, we are going to take a walk in the snow.

We have some errands to run this afternoon and I am hoping that we are gone when Cisco decides it is convenient to come home. I hope he finds the house all locked up and feels homeless again.

I hope this feeling reminds him of when he hit bottom and was homeless and triggers a revival in him.

As for me I am not answering my phone. I must have mentioned at least three times during the week that today, Rocco and I were visiting a good friend who is fighting cancer.

Cisco needs to feels some gratitude and realize he is not the only person on this earth who has suffering or pain or something else to work through. it is not always about him. It is not always about any of us.

What it is about is learning to do God's will.

There I said it.

Cisco needs to find God.

God always knocks on the door but Cisco needs to answer. He has not yet opened the door.
