Allegheny County Juvenile Probation Parent-of-the-Year to be announced!
Posted by:Lloyd Woodward--Wednesday, September 28, 2011

What last year's cake would have looked like except that
Lloyd  let the plastic wrap touch the icing. It still tasted
good :-)  Click "read more" to see another cake!

Once again, a parent from PSST will be named Allegheny County Parent of the Year! The award will be given on October 6th, but the fun happens this Saturday, October 1, at our Eastern District Probation Office where no doubt we will celebrate as we always do- with CAKE!

This year's winner was nominated by numerous people including parents. This year's winner won for acts of bravery, excellent command of PSST skills, for showing a lot of growth, and for reaching out to other parents. Those nominating felt that this year's winner stood out for those reasons; however, it is also true that this award could have been given out to many other PSST parents who also act bravely, study and use the PSST skills, show a lot of improvement and reach out to other parents. In some ways, everyone who attends PSST wins (again this year!).

We can't announce the winner on the blog until after
October 6th.  If you know who won remember "mums" the word!

All of the parents who attend the Saturday PSST meetings are courageous and dedicated parents. I have received valuable advice, understanding and empathy from each of them.
However, it will be great fun to see who is chosen this Saturday.

Hhmmmm!!! What a tough decision it must have been.

PSST is a special place for parents - it allows us to strengthen ourselves mentally, spiritually and physically so that we can take back the power and control in our homes and our lives.

All PSST Parents deserve a special award for all the effort they exert to save their children's lives and to restore their families.

Thanks PSST for giving us this opportunity.

Rocco & Sally, You two were the FIRST to welcome Jim & I to our very first PSST mtg in late Nov 2010. We were "shell shocked" and I will never forget your smiles & open hearts as you welcomed us 'off our island' and into the TEAM of PSST professionals & parents. We would not be as strong today in our struggles with Andy if it weren't for PSST. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Rocco and Sally,
You were also the first to greet Fred and I when we came to our first PSST meeting December 18, 2010. Bam Bam had been in the hospital for two weeks and that is where we find out about his drug addiction. In searching the internet for teen drug information I found PSST!! We grabbed onto the life preserver you all threw out to us. Fred is not outgoing or a talker and during the break Lloyd sat and talked with him like he had a 6th sense that Fred wouldn't be the one to reach out. In that first meeting there were so many people that I met for the first time I now have as friends. If not for everyone at PSST(PROS AND PARENTS) I couldn't do what I am doing now with Bam Bam.
I am looking forward to celebrating with the new parent of the year-I too have gotten so much from this person and the award is well deserved!!!

THANK YOU!!!!

Wilma

What a trend we have here - Rocco & Sally were also the very first parents to greet and welcome us at our first PSST meeting on Jan. 22, 2011! They have continued to reach out and be supportive since then - they have provided strong words of advice and wisdom along the way - and they set an example that says far more than words. We are so blessed to be part of this community of professionals and committed parents!

It's wonderful that Allegheny County Probations will be recognizing another PSST parent this year for her courage and growth as an empowered parent - congrats to her as well!
